skin brushing to flush toxins

I started reading Marilu Henner’s Total Health Makeover books which I got at the library and am enjoying them very much so far. (There is the main book with all of the information in it, a 30-day plan book with a specific daily plan, and a recipe book.) I’m going to try and do the 30-day plan while I’m reading the main book because I don’t want to wait to get started. One of the things she recommends is skin brushing. The following is from her Day 1 instructions in the 30-day plan book:

SKIN BRUSH EVERYDAY. Start every morning by using a natural bristle brush. (It can look like a shoe brush or the kind with a long handle, but remove the handle, of course.) You can buy these brushes at your local beauty supply or drugstore. You want to brush your dry skin in an elongated upward motion toward the heart for 1-2 minutes every morning. Start with your feet and ankles, and work your way up the body to your calves and thighs. Really concentrate on brushing the lymphatic areas of your body (the back of your knees, your inner thighs, and under your arms) to stimulate those glands and get them started on flushing out those toxins. Gently brush up your stomach and tush, shoulders and back. Finish this regime with each arm and hand. Make sure you cover the entire surface of your body, excluding your breasts and face. The brushing should not irritate you. It may take a couple of days to get used to it, but if you hang in there, I promise you will feel the difference in your skin in less than a week.
