Accutane at age 34 and some ?’s about laser resurfacing

Hi, I’m new here. I have adult acne…it’s not bad but bothers me enough to want to do something about it. I am scheduled to start accutane at the end of the month and was just curious if anyone else has taken it who’s around my age and what the results were.

Also, I have scars…I was looking into laser resurfacing. Has anyone had this procedure done and if so, how do you like your results? I was also curious if the laser resurfacing could take care of “active” acne or do I need to take the accutane first to clear my skin up (I was considering foregoing the accutane and just getting the laser treatment done). I would also be curious to know if there are any alternatives to the laser procedure (it seems so invasive) that would improve scarring and skin tone or is this the best one.

Thanks, in advance, for any feedback!

  1. Hi Pammy:

I am 34 and I am finishing my course of accutane in just a few weeks. I started a thread – “Week 13 Accutane Blues.” http://www.clearskin.net/viewtopic.php?t=6273

My time on accutane was really tough. I did not respond to it for 5&12 months! Now, my skin is fairly clear and I hope, hope, hope that it will remain so. Considering my age and the reoccurring tendency of my skin condition, I think that I am probably in remission right now. My goal at the moment is to really unearth the triggers of my skin condition and try to identify a long term, non-toxic, approach. I would love to one day be free of acne!

I have never had laser resurfacing or micro-dermabrasion or anything like that, but I am interested. Once my skin has had a chance to repair and strengthen, post accutane, I will consider trying these procedures.

There is a thread on the general acne chat concerning adult acne.
