Vinegar and Lemon water

There’s a big thread going on at acne.org about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and Lemon, and it seems quite promising.

The method is basically:

1) Apply ACV to your face once or twice a day after cleansing and before topicals. It is possible to dilute the ACV with water. For instance 1 part ACV and 2 parts water, but it is also possible to use it “clean” if your skin is not too sensitive.
It is also possible to drink ACV. Mix 1-2 teaspoons honey and 1-2 teaspoons of ACV in a glas of water. Drink 2-3 glasses a day.

2) Drink water with lemon juice in. Add half a teaspoon of lemon juice for every glass of water and drink around 8 glasses a day.

The ACV is supposed to gently exfoliate your skin and even out the skin tone, and the diluted lemon juice is supposed to wash toxins out of your body.
It is important not to overdo the lemon juice part in that it can have the opposite effect.

  1. What’s the opposite effect…a build-up of toxins? Just curious.

ACV has been a natural “cure” for weight loss for some time, and lemon juice has been known to help curb appetite. I wonder if it’s related to clearing up the skin.

  2. if you use too much lemon juice you’ll detox too fast…possibly causing breakouts

  3. YG, it seems to be working for a lot of people – yours truly included – so I thought I would share it with everybody.

  4. Can i drink this lemon juice whilst im on accutane or will it not work???

  5. WeCanDoThis,

  6. I didnt see the web site hun it didnt show up.

I have a friend of mine who hates drinking water but because she has diabeties her dr. told her to drink more but she hates the taste. So she puts a couple lemon and orange slices in her water to help with the taste and i have to say her skin looks amazing. She didnt have acne problems but their was some discoloration an uneven tone, like around her nose, sides of her face, and eyeslids. Since she has been doing the lemon water for the last three months her skin looks great!

Now, i starting drinking alot of water too since i had a sinus infection that was hella bad a couple weeks ago but like her i hated the taste. I have to admit i have alot more energy and im not hungry all the time but my cheeks and forehead seem to be more sensitive then normal. Like, pinkish and redish in color. I thought maybe it could be the weather change too because my skin always changes with the seasons but then i thought about the lemons. I have a slight problem with alot of acid but i only have a few small wedges of lemon in my water and i drink alot of water. I would like to continue with this program but fear im gonna have a huge allergic reaction or something. Could their be a way i could like curb using so much lemon? Could i use limes or oranges? Would they give me the same effect?

    Thanks

  7. Vinegar is indeed good for the skin, but for my Natural Treatment for Acne I prefer white vinegar because it is colorless and smell less than ACV. To learn more about my acne remedy, click in the www button below. Thanks.

  8. I think that ACV and lemon juice is GREAT for mild-moderate acne, but doesnt make a dent in deep cystic acne. back when i had clogged pores and mild non-inflamed acne, this worked pretty good.

  9. I had no idea there was such a thing as detoxing too fast! WCDT, you didn’t find it too drying externally? And did it ever upset your stomach??

I haven’t find it too drying. In addition to this, ACV balances the PH-level on the skin, evens out the skin tone and reduces red marks. Needless to say I’m very happy with this method.
As far as drinking it, I sense that one has to be carefull not to “overdo” it, or it most certainly will upset the stomach, but I haven’t had problems so far.

  11. Plus, you might want to rinse your mouth with baking soda in water every now and then, because the acidity of the lemon can slowly erode the enamel in your teeth if you drink too much of it.

  12. I’d be worried about the lemon juice destroying too much good bacteria…?

  13. ^Afaik, lemon doesn’t have that effect on friendly bacteria. We should always be trying to replenish the good bacteria in us anyways.

  14. Okay guys,

I have been using the lemon detox for about a week now almost and seem to be breaking out in little fine bumps on my cheeks and forehead like i feared i would. Did i do something wrong? Or is it just the lemons are too acidic?

  15. Dunno, Poppy, but I’m going to try this regime as my skin seems to be going haywire lately, and I’m running out of options. I’ll let you know what happens.

Could be you’re not diluting enough? A reaction like that (with me, anyway) usually means the solution is too strong–it’s almost like an allergic reaction.

  16. The lemon water acts as a detoxifier and helps to flush out the toxins from your body. It’s very well possible that too many toxins are being circulated into your body, but you’re not expelling them promptly enough. Are you getting enough BM’s? Is your digestive system working properly? Just my guess.

First of all, there can be other reasons for your break-out.

Secondly, you gotta give it time and not “overdose” (how much lemon do you use?).

Third, do you use vinegar as well? If not, consider it strongly.

I can only speak from personal experience. I have been doing bp for about 6 months and it works pretty well for me; about 90-95% clear, but it doesnt clear the last 5-10%.
The lemon and Vinegar method has done this so Im now 98-100% clear. Apart from the above, I take zinc, c-vitamin and fish oil and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle (exercise, sleep, relaxing techniques etc). So something in that mix seems to do the trick.

    Best of luck – WCDT

  18. Hey guys and dolls,

Thank you for the advice. Yorkie hun keep me posted we will be in it together-lol Im not doing anything differently except the lemon detox. I use at least two to three lemon slices in an 8oz cup 6-8 glasses a day. The same lemons of course. I do notice i have alot more energy, more talkative hahaha, more focused. Ehh could be the detox hahah or the seasonal change. So do i use less lemon slices huns or continue on like i have been. I havent started the ACV because my skin is sssssssssoooooo sensitive and i fear it may make it worst…..

  20. Should you cleanse your skin before using the ACV? And if I only have a few zits should I dab ACV directly onto them? Or my whole face? 😕
Will it dry out the skin? I am worried that if it does have a severe drying affect my skin will dry and flaky and then will work over time to create more sebum to make up for it.

BTW: Sorry about my the ACV board I recently created, I didn’t know there all ready was one going! So just ignore mine…

No worries mate; you’re all right :wink

    1. I suggest you dap your whole face cause it evens out the skin tone
    2. I haven’t found it drying at all, but you can dillute it at first and see how it goes.

  22. I have been using ACV and fresh lemon slices in my water for two weeks now, well, I have been using ACV for two weeks and lemon water for a few days… I am VERY pleased with the results thus far… my skin is less red and guess what? No new pimples the entire time I’ve been doing this. I was using BP and tretinoin cream on my face and it was flaky and red and I was still getting pimples but now I’ve stopped using them and the ACV seems to have completely balanced my skin out… it’s not oily but it isn’t dry either… with the exception of UT therapy (which I found too difficult to keep up with) when I was doing it for a few weeks, my face has never been non-flaky in the past few years. At first I started out with oily face acne but then as I got older and used a lot of topicals it made my face sensitive and dry… not so with ACV! I think I have finally found relief from my acne… as some of you know I was trying to modify my diet and eat better but since taking ACV I can have the best of both worlds… I am still taking vitamins but not as many and I’m making sure to maintain a healthy diet but I’m allowing myself sweets a couple of days a weeks and it hasn’t seemed to hurt… I’m not sure why…

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that this is working for me… hoping not to jinx myself but I have a feeling I’ll be keeping a jar of ACV in my bathroom cabinet for awhile! 😀

  23. I have also been skin-brushing like jc suggested on an earlier post as well as exercising daily for 30 minutes… it (brushing) has really helped with dry skin on my legs, and I feel invigorated (sp?) afterward, I would recommend it!

That’s really good to hear, Im very happy on your behalf 😀

  25. Okay, slight delay in starting the regiment, but I’m starting tonight. My skin has been going absolutely haywire, 😡 and having limited options on what I can use, we’ll give it a go.

  27. i used to drink ACV last time but i think it’s giving me break out. Then a friend told me that ACV actually get rids of toxin so one keeps on getting break outs the same cause like a few of her friends who experienced the same effects.

    Is it true

  30. UPDATE

Well I am thinking of trying this. It’s been over a month since the last post in this thread, so has it been successful/unsuccessful?

  31. Forgot to add that I use apple cider vinegar to wash my hair and it works great!

It is an EXCELLENT hair detangler (and refresher on non-wash days). Also makes a good quick body wash (on a washcloth with water) in the morning. Extra ACV under arms also makes antiperspirant last longer since it has a deodorizing effect.
