  1. Hey persian, did you read about that in a paper or magazine recently coz im pretty sure i read something about that in the last few days?

Well anyways it does sound good but isnt it mainly devised to help with wrinkles and premature ageing? I guess it WOULD work for acne as well though just coz of the benefits of omega 3. I’ve been eating quite a bit of salmon recently anyways and it does seem to be doing some good for my skin! :scratch

  2. I had a look at the 3-day perricone diet – very healthy food, flesh foods are great for skin, not a carb in sight. If you do this for 28 days, you’ll look great and lose weight at the same time!

Did you consider the other diet I told you about? :scratch

  3. Jamie,
I just finished a post on pizza on the Chatty Shack but in truth I don’t eat much in the carb area anymore. When I have pizza it is usually just one slice. I love french fries but will only eat a few with my fav hot sauce.

Staying away from carbs helps me keep my skin clear, helps to keep me mentally alert, and also keeps me from gaining a lot of weight.

When I eat a lot of REFINED carbs FROM BREAD OR wheat flour based PASTA I get pimples, gain weight and feel sleepy all of the time.

  4. Actually some of the veggies I like are carbs.

White onions and different varieties of squash are complex carbs. Sweet potatoes and regular white potatoes are complex carbs. Bananas and apples are complex carbs.

What makes these carbs different from the carbs in bread and cookies, and cakes is that veggies have tons of other nutrients in them along with the carbs. We need to get these nutrients out of vegetables, we should not try to get all of our vitamins out of pills.

Antioxidants in onions, carotene in squash and sweet potatoes that turns into vitamin A in the body and other nutrients that include minerals like potassium are also present in veggies but these nutrients are NOT present in REFINED WHITE FLOUR. You will notice that b vitamins are usually added to sweets that are made from white refined flour. Being refined means that all the good vitamins have been removed. Then they add some of the vitamins back in. Makes one wonder … doesn’t it?

If you do have a problem with veggie carbs it will most likely be with the heavy starches in the potatoes but lets face it you need to eat something that will keep you from getting too thin; the starchy carbs in the different potatoes are a good choice to help maintain your weight. The complex carbs in rice will also help you to maintain your weight.

  5. Hey Solomio,
those veggies and apples that you mentioned are ranked high-glycemic? the reason I ask is because I’m avoiding them ‘coz I have diabetes in my family and was told by Jim (author of my diet book) ‘coz it would cause an increase in insulin production, thus leading to acne. But I ‘ve been eating apples, so you are saying that its much better to eat these complex carbs (like apple) then white bread, but would that still cause acne? or are you saying its better just because it has nutrients and white bread doesn’t. does my question make sense?

    Hi Mickey,
Yes, I am in the same situation as you are because I also have diabetes in my family…my sister died last year from complications form diabetes…my French uncle died also from complications from diabetes. Both got diabetes as adults. I have cousins who were born with diabetes, which is a different type of diabetes. I think that diabetes is probably common in families that acne victims come from since a problem with utilizing carbs and their relationship to insulin in connected to us having acne. .I have had mild to moderate acne and I am a female. I stopped eating apples but I do eat some rice, potatoes and sweet potatoes but not a lot.

Because I seem to react in a negative manner, mainly to wheat flour I recently purchased, from Whole Foods, soy flour, rice flour and oat flour to make some baked goods. All grain flours contain gluten, which is the protein in a grain, and is mainly responsible for any reaction to the grain. The gluten in soy, rice and oat is made from different AMINO ACIDS than the gluten in wheat flour. This means that the body will handle these amino acids in a different manner than the amino acids in wheat flour. Once the weather gets cold again I will experiment with making bread from the different flours that are available for me where I live. I say when the weather gets cold again because baking with the oven on really makes the air conditioner go crazy because we are having very hot temperatures here where I live, and most baking I do, because I have to have the oven on, is done while we have cold weather, where I live.

Soy, rice and oat flours, I hope, will not cause me any breakouts or make my stomach swell up like wheat protein does. I do take digestants when I eat wheat protein, and digestants do stop the swelling but sometimes they don’t stop all the reactions to wheat..

Men have a more serious problem with maintaining body weight than we do. We females burn calories at a much lower rate than men do. So when we stop eating we DO NOT GET THIN as fast as a man would get thin. This is a problem for us when we want to lose a pound or two, but this is nature’s way to keep us as the reproductive creatures we are. Men can lose weight very fast and this endangers their health. That is why it is so important for a man to find food that will help him to maintain his body weight… men burn calories much faster than we women do.

That is why I recommended that Jamie try eating complex carbs as complex means that they contain all the essential nutrients that should accompany carbs. I have talked with Jamie in the past and I think he could loose too much weight too fast if he were to restrict his diet as far as we women can restrict our diets.

  7. Purepersian,

I have to add that I endorse the Perricone diet with its high animal flesh protein intake. I love salmon and find that I can get the WILD SALMON at Trader Joes in the frozen case. The price is very good at Trader Joes too!

All canned salmon is wild salmon according to Dr. Perricone.

Wild salmon is better for you than farm raised because the farm raised salmon is raised close to shore where the pollutants are present in the water.

Also the farm raised fish are fed differently than the diet that the wild salmon exist on.

I eat very little fruit as fruit contains pure sugar called frutose that raises my blood sugar too high, too fast, and too much fructose from fruit causes me problems.

  8. so solomio, do u think taking Omega3 supplements would be as good as eating salmon ? would it have the same effect?

    with mayo
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  9. Just my 2 cents on Dr. Perricone and his products. I have his Wrinkle Cure bk and have seen the Acne Prescription bk. Check Amazon for good prices on used versions. You may also like to see the reviews there- one says “dreadful book”. I liked knowing that Perricone suffered from bad acne from age 14 through his 20’s. Gives him more credence. However, when he talks about how he got cured, he was cured by a topical Vitamin A. His advice in his bks is very tiring and I doubt many of us could continue with his diet suggestion for long. I am a strict vegetarian and would have difficulty with his plan. I have tried many diets over the yrs, no sugar, no glutin, high protein, no protein, etc. and nothing ever worked. I’m clear from B5, but I would love to find an alternative to taking 8 to 10 pills a day for the rest of my life. I think Perricone is an honest guy and knows his stuff, but I really feel many of us would fail his strict guidelines.
