If you tracked your daily acne info what data would ya trak?

I’m looking for input from people about writing down everything related to acne. Things can may cause acne, contributing factors, anything that should be written down and could play a role in acne. Can anyone give me ideas on what they would write down and track if you did? Like food, sleep, products used on face, dryness, how much water, etc.

  1. How many hours of sleep?

    What supplements/vitamins did you take?

For food there a million. I think it would a hassle to write down everything you put in your mouth, but maybe focus on things that you suspect might be causing it, possibly wheat, sugar, milk, fried foods, carbs, etc

Was it a “good” or “bad” day?

  2. Good ideas. I do track sleep, vits, and weather, but not detergent. I also track food and it’s not as bad as you think. Every night I just write down everything I ate. There are four categories, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks. It’s really pretty simple and has already showed me one food that I can not longer eat! It is kind of a hassle to write everything down on paper, so I am in the process on converting it to computer. Oh and for good/bad I write down either “Active” “Semi-Active” or “Calm” which is a good snapshot of how the day was.

Oh if anyone is interested I bought some all natural detergent called 7th Generation (www.seventhgen.com). It’s vegetable based not petroleum based. I am anxious to see if there is a connection with acne and detergent.

  3. I am wondering if anyone else writes down their daily acne info? I know most people here are trying to determine the good from the bad with acne and it seems like a no brainer to track everything. It only takes 5 minutes a day and makes connections with acne black and white. Anyone else track their info?

  4. Hey Jim it looks like you’ve got this whole tracking thing pretty much sorted! 🙂 I tried to start one myself a while ago but i dont think I organised it very well. I wasnt getting any real patterns – just hit and miss results.
I was wondering – do you keep an eye on the types of preservatives and sweeteners in your food?? If not maybe it might be an idea to try that aswell just in case it turns out one of these is a trigger going undetected. Just a thought but it might take a while to find out that sort of info :eek

  5. hey these guys point out something really important here. I think for the new clearskin.net or site you should have a Personal Acne Diary, portion. Where there’s a form and stuff that you can enter about your day with categories already premade, and maybe safe that file to your own computer so you can look at it?

  6. I am actually having something like you mentioned made. After having tracked everything on paper for a month, I saw the need for a better way to do it on the computer. It’s not only for me, but also made so anyone can use it. It should be done in about 15 days. But it’s costing a lot of money to get programmed 🙁 I’ll let you know once it’s done.

  7. that’s cool jim1! maybe we could all get a copy of it when it’s done? lol..it’d really help out alot of people.

  8. I have to be honest, I do plan on charging people to use it. And the only reason is because it is costing me a lot of money to get it made. I’m not a programmer, so to have this made I had to go out and hire one. So hopefully I am not offending anyone by charging for it. It will be dirt cheap, only a few bucks a month, so affordibilty should not be an issue, it’s just whether or not it’s something that will be of use to you. It will have a free trial period, so people can certainly try and make sure they like it before they pay. I want to assure everyone that this will not be a scam or a ploy to get money. I was just taken by the “acnecured” scam and understand what it’s like. So I can promise you it will be a quality program, that does exactly what is offered. And if it turns out the way I told them to make it, it’s gonna be awesome!!! 🙂 🙂

But I would like to hear the thoughts about this from those you are interested in this type of program. I am certainly open to any and all suggestions.

The last thing I want to do is alienate all of you, who have been so helpful and comforting. The true intent of this program is to help everyone out, not make money. But it is costing me a lot out of pocket and I have a huge monthly vitamin bill. So I would just like to hear everyone’s thoughts. I don’t want to proceed if it will make everyone hate me. The true intent is to provide a helpful service, which it absolutely will.

    Love to hear your thoughts.

  9. Hi Jim. I think your idea ia a real good one!! I wonder how the program you are designing will be implemented technically. I have a lot of questions just off the top of my head. lol! I am very interested in what this program could do. I think you are on to something that could be very useful for lots of people beyond those that have acne. It seems like a large undertaking but well worth the time and effort. I wish you good luck and I would be more than willing to help you do some test runs or whatever else it may take to get it started.

I understand the purpose of this thread, to get ideas and feedback. Maybe you can take a step further and brainstorm for a few days with several people and just see what ideas could be brought up. Jim, I think in addition to finding some common pattern of what causes a person’s acne, via the diary, is to then find what could be done to alleviate it. Like a database of products/supplements would be way cool to have along with what each of these things can do to help someone and then you could do like input your condition (oily skin, cysts on cheek, occasional backne, etc) and then input your known allergies or sensitivities and then be able to get a list of products and treatment that would fit the user. At least it would be a start for someone, cuz thats what a lot of people here keep asking!

And with diet, we could cross-reference so many food items to find a diet that would be custom for the user, if they want low-carb or no wheat/dairy or high veggie/fruit and then link that to recipes!! Haha, you can see I think this has great potential! It would be cool to build the database!!!!

I realize the thoughts I have are beyond what you have planned so just some ideas there. So WOW, good luck Jim and like I said I would be willing to help you. 🙂

  10. Thanks RK,

I have thought of some of the ideas you mentioned and it would be cool to include. However I don’t want to take away from Mari’s site in anyway. But if she approves and I get positive feedback from other forum users, then I think I could include a “diets” section of the service, where people enter their diet information, give the diet a “rating” and then periodically update the progress of the diet. This could then be cross referenced by skin type/acne type/gender for a user to find a diet with a good rating that fits their situation. Maybe take it a step further and include a lot of recipes. Does that sound appealing to anyone?

Also, for those interesting in this “tracking” service, would you like an option to make your diary public for other users to search for (by gender, acne type, etc)? So other users could read your daily progress. But of course keeping it private would be the default option and making it public would be volluntary. Does that sound like something I should have included?

If anyone else has any feedback, I’d love to hear it. And if you have any ideas, feel free to post them or PM me.

RK, I will PM you when the software is ready for testing, if you are interested.
